Safety & Domestic Violence

Under Tennessee law, victims of domestic violence are not required to go to mediation.

When there is an order of protection or a finding of abuse, mediation can happen only if the victim agrees, the mediator is specially trained in domestic violence, and safety protections are in place.

Julie holds the Rule 31 Family Mediator designation "Specially Trained in Domestic Violence Issues."

• Separate, private screening with each person before any session.
• You never have to be in the same room. Separate rooms are available at the Babb Center, and virtual sessions can use separate virtual rooms, with Julie moving between them.
• Staggered arrival and departure times for in-person sessions.
• A support person or advocate may attend where appropriate.
• Anyone may pause or stop mediation at any time, for any reason.
• Julie may end mediation if safety or free participation is at risk.

A party's location is never shared. Screening questions are asked privately.
